What to Expect From Tonight's School Board Meeting

The Board will discuss state budget and parcel tax measure.

The Scotts Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the City Council Chambers, One Civic Center Dr. The board is expected to consider the following items:

  • The Board will review a draft resolution proposing an education parcel tax measure. The Board is considering putting the measure on the ballot in May or June 2012.
  • The Board will review and approve the Single Plan for Student Achievement for Vine Hill Elementary School and Scotts Valley Middle School. Single Plans for Achievement are required by the state and their purpose is to provide a “structured means to improve student academic performance.”
  • The Board will accept information on the 2011-12 California state budget. The budget includes “trigger” language that may institute mid-year budget reductions. The Board will hear a presentation on the possibility of “triggers” and the outlook for the 2012-13 state budget as it relates to the Scotts Valley Unified School District.
  • The Board will consider approving a resolution that proposes a revised redistricting plan for the Santa Cruz County Board of Education. The redistricting process is required every 10 years after the census. A task force formed to take a look at the redistricting process and realign areas in response to the census is recommending realigning Trustee Area 1 to Scotts Valley.
