What to Expect From Tonight's School Board Meeting

The Scotts Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, One Civic Center Dr. The board is expected to consider the following items:

• The board will begin discussing options for balancing the Fiscal Year 2011-12 District Budget. The district is facing a possible $1 million budget shortfall for the next school year. The administration is recommending a variety of options to address the potential shortfall. No action will be taken on this item at this time.
• The board will discuss and vote on a proposed resolution directing the superintendent to reduce or eliminate certain certificated positions for the 2011-12 school year. Being considered for elimination are K-5 classroom teaching positions, school counselor positions, math and English teaching positions, physical education teaching positions, and a resource specialist position.

The district’s next board of trustees meeting will be at 6 p.m. March 22.
