1. 'Putnam County Spelling Bee' dazzles Selma audiences (midvalleytimes.com) — Selma theatergoers can catch "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at the Selma Arts Center every weekend through Oct. 17, featuring two rotating casts and lively audience participation. Reviewers praise the energetic performances, sharp physical comedy, and emotional musical numbers, with special Halloween dress-up nights planned for the Oct. 3 and Oct. 10 shows.
2. Breaking: Floral Fire reported in Fresno County on Sep. 28 (sacbee.com) — A new wildfire called the Floral Fire broke out Monday afternoon on the eastern side of Selma, quickly burning about 30 acres and drawing a Cal Fire response. As of the latest update, officials had not yet reported any containment level or identified a cause, so residents should stay alert for further guidance.
3. Update: Floral Fire in Fresno County now brought under 100% containment (modbee.com) — A wildfire dubbed the Floral Fire burned about 30 acres on the eastern side of Selma Monday afternoon but has now been brought to 100% containment, meaning firefighters have a control line around the entire blaze. Crews will still be working the area as it continues to burn within that perimeter, but it's not expected to spread further while officials investigate the cause.
4. Judge denies release for man accused of killing his younger brother (abc30.com) — A Selma man accused of fatally stabbing his younger brother will remain in jail after a Fresno County judge denied his request for release, citing public and family safety concerns. Prosecutors say the killing happened while the parents were away, and the defense argues it was an isolated confrontation as the murder case moves forward.
