Charred Remains Likely LA's 28th Homeless Homicide Victim In 2019
Police are working to identify a body found in Lake Balboa Park. The case appears to be the latest of seemingly unrelated homeless killings.
VAN NUYS , CA — Detectives Thursday were investigating the death of a man whose burned body was found at Lake Balboa Park in the Van Nuys area.
The body was discovered about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday near Balboa and Burbank boulevards, according to the coroner's office. The man's identity was not known, and an autopsy was pending.
The case was being investigated by detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division.

NBC4, citing law enforcement sources, reported the body was that of a homeless man who apparently had been killed elsewhere, placed in a shopping cart and pushed onto a bike path that crosses beneath Balboa Boulevard.
The victim is believed to be the 28th homeless person killed in the city so far this year, according to LAPD crime data reviewed by Channel 4.
