Driver Survives Mysterious Crash Off Mulholland Drive Cliff

At first, rescuers found a car 400 feet down from Mulholland Drive but not driver.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A desperate search for a driver whose car went over the side of Mulholland Drive late Wednesday night had a happy ending when rescue found the man.

Paramedics responding to a report of a crash at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday at 8800 W. Mulholland Drive, found a mangle ca 400 feet down the hillside in thick brush with no one inside. The began to search the area with the help of a helicopter, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Shortly after midnight, they found the driver down the hillside. He was able to walk, but authorities don't know how he came to be in the location they found him, said Stewart. It does not appear he was ejected from the vehicle, she added.

The driver of a car that went over a road in the Beverly Crest neighborhood of Los Angeles was located and rescued by firefighters Thursday morning.

Firefighters deployed a rope system and basket to bring the man to safety at 12:45 a.m., Stewart said.

He was transported to a hospital in unknown condition.
