Firefighters Douse 4-Acre Sepulveda Basin Brush Fire
Crews worked throughout the night to contain the fire driven by 20 mile- per-hour winds in the Lake Balboa area.
LAKE BALBOA, CA — Firefighters worked through the night to contain a brush fire that scorched more than 4 acres at the Sepulveda Basin in Lake Balboa Monday.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the blaze, ripped through heavy vegetation driven by 20 mile- per-hour winds. It was first reported at about 2 a.m. Monday. Crews arrived to find a 1 1/4-acre fire at 6049 North Woodley Avenue, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
By 2:52 a.m., the fire had grown to four acres and firefighters on the ground were aided by water drops, Stewart said.

At 5:05 a.m., the visible flames were out and Los Angeles County Fire Department camp crews were helping clear lines of vegetation around the perimeter of the burn area, she said.
Firefighters were to remain on the scene until all hot spots were out, Stewart said.

The blaze was one of two brush fires burning in Los Angeles overnight, a second four-acre fire broke out in the Eagle Rock area.
