Local students organize holiday food drive for Salvation Army
iQ Academy Los Angeles Students Host Food Drive for Salvation Army
Full-time online public school students with the iQ Academy Los Angeles,a tuition-free, online public school for grades K-12,which provides a flexible school setting, joined their teacher in front of Vons Supermarket in Glendale on Friday, December 4 to host a food drive benefiting the Glendale Salvation Army Holiday Programs.
According to Feeding America, in 2014 one in seven people in the United States utilize a food bank – which equates to food banks providing service to 46.5 million people in need across the United States, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors. In California, nearly six million people struggle with food insecurity.
“We are so happy to be able to organize this opportunity for our kids to gather together, meet face-to-face, and give back to our community,” said Gary Gyultemiryan, a social science teacher with the iQ Academy Los Angeles. “iQ Academy provides enriching community services activities that provide a well-rounded education for our students.”

The event was just one of many ways that online K12 full-time students regularly meet up to collaborate and support their local communities. Students from iQ Academy Los Angeles are offered regular opportunities to socialize in person and give back to their community.
