Local teens commute from breakfast table to their computers for first day of school
Sherman Oaks families are invited to attend California Virtual Academy back to school events to learn about full-time online school
Who needs carpools or bus stops when going back to school means simply turning on the home computer? On September 1, Sherman Oaks area students start their first day of school at California Virtual Academy@Los Angeles, a full-time, online public charter school for students in grades K-12.
Their school day starts with logging onto web-based lessons using K¹² online curriculum from home, and also includes age-appropriate instructional materials – books, videos, CDs and other hands-on tools and resources – all of which are shipped directly to each student’s home. Students and parents regularly interact throughout the school year with their California-credentialed teachers via email, online classrooms, online discussions, phone, and face-to-face meetings.
One of the most unique aspects of California Virtual Academy@Los Angeles is the ability to tailor the classroom experience. Teachers work with families to create an individualized learning plan for each student. Students succeed by using innovative technology, combined with a strong partnership between families and teachers.
Families with high schoolers interested in learning more about online public school are invited to the Back to School High School Hang Out in Van Nuys on August 31 at 11am at Sherman Oaks Castle Park (4989 Sepulveda Boulevard).
