Online school helps local TV star keep straight A's
Glendale sophomore launches entertainment career while studying at iQ Academy Los Angeles

Seven years in the competitive Los Angeles entertainment scene has paid off for Glendale high school sophomore, Franchesca Maia. This fall, Franchesca proved her double threat chops, joining the cast of the new NBC sitcom Mr. Robinson, and releasing her debut professional recording single, “Let’s Do It Again.” Even more impressive, Franchesca’s success academically – maintaining straight A’s as a tenth grade high school student.
For years, her family struggled to balance a demanding audition schedule with her school schedule. Finding balance and time for auditions, school work and other after-school commitments began to be too overwhelming and stressful.
The solution was iQ Academy Los Angeles, a tuition-free, online public school for grades K-12, which provides a flexible school setting. This school model has enabled Franchesca to learn from where ever she can get internet access and structure her school day around her acting auditions and musical commitments. Being able to maintain a busy schedule - while still maintaining a stellar academic record as an “A” student - has been essential to Franchesca’s career.
