Police Chase Driver Of Stolen Mercedes Into Sherman Oaks Mall

SHERMAN OAKS, CA — A man who led officers on a pursuit in a stolen Mercedes-Benz SUV Thursday and fled into a parking structure at Westfield Fashion Square in Sherman Oaks was taken into custody.

Los Angeles Police Department officers began pursuing the man in Van Nuys about 5:20 p.m., according to the department. Officers followed the suspect on freeways and streets to Encino, but terminated the pursuit due to heavy traffic.

The suspect drove on the southbound Ventura (101) Freeway to Sherman Oaks, then exited the freeway and drove into the mall's parking structure just before 5:45 p.m.

CBS2 reported just after 6:30 p.m. that the suspect was taken into custody, but the LAPD could not immediately provide further details on the arrest.
