As Sherman Oaks Dries Out, Another Storm Heads This Way
A cooling trend is here after Monday's spectacular thunder and lightning storm. A frontal system is expected to bring more rain Thursday.
SHERMAN OAKS, CA — Los Angeles received a surprising wallop of much-needed rain overnight along with a spectacular thunder and lightning show. There may be more in the works.
As a cooling trend ushers in the fall weather on Tuesday, another storm system is headed this way bringing a 40 percent chance of rain Thursday night and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
"Today (Tuesday) will be dry but cooler," according to the NWS. "The cooling trend is expected through Thursday, with an increase in night through morning low clouds. A frontal system may bring rain to the entire area by Thursday night and Friday. Dry weather is expected for the weekend."

The frontal system headed into the region may drop more rain than Monday's dramatic storm.
Monday's storms dropped nearly half an inch of rain in some areas. Forecasters said 0.41 inches of rain fell at Big Dalton Dam in Los Angeles County, while Santa Fe Dam recorded 0.33 inches of rain.

Santa Monica received 0.27 inches and Hansen Dam in the San Fernando Valley had 0.21 inches, according to the NWS. The Hollywood Reservoir recorded 0.15 inches, Woodland Hills recorded 0.19 inches, the Chatsworth Reservoir recorded 0.16 inches and Van Nuys recorded 0.13 inches.
Downtown L.A. recorded 0.11 inches of rain and Pasadena recorded 0.18 inches of rain.
Forecasters said Tuesday will be a "much quieter day ... following an impressive show of lightning last night."
Forecasters said there is a 20% chance of showers in the San Gabriel Valley Tuesday, and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Riverside County valleys and L.A. County mountain areas.
