Tips Lead To Arrest Of Man For 2013 SF Valley Fatal Hit-and-Run: Police

An 84-year-old man using a walker was killed crossing White Oak Avenue at Valerio Street in Van Nuys. [Breaking]

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, CA – A suspected hit-and-run driver was arrested Wednesday in connection with a 2013 crash in Van Nuys that took the life of an 84-year-old man using a walker.

Asghar Abbassi was fatally injured about 6 a.m. on Aug. 6, 2013, as he used a walker inside a crosswalk while crossing White Oak Avenue at Valerio Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Suspect Arthur Song, 32, was arrested about 8:15 a.m. on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and was booked into the Van Nuys jail with bail set at $50,000, according to sheriff's inmate records.

A $50,000 reward had been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver, but it's unclear if it had expired.

Detective William Bustos of the LAPD's Valley Traffic Division told the Daily News that some tips led to the arrest.

The vehicle believed to have been involved was impounded, he said.

"We did some search warrants today that culminated with that arrest," Bustos told the newspaper.
