VIDEO: Buckley Basketball Soars to New Heights This Year

See interviews with Coach Hamilton, Nick De Bonfilhs and Tyler Coppin-Carter after Buckley's banner year.

Buckley’s season came to an end Thursday night in a 76-55 loss at No. 2 Windward. The Griffins raced out to a 16-2 start against Windward and had the home crowd reeling early on.

“It was a great atmosphere and we started off great,” said Coach Mike Hamilton. “We silenced the crowd and we were executing our gameplan.”

As the game progressed, Windward’s 24-8 third quarter was too much to overcome.

“We came out really strong and had a lead, but later on, their height and physicality caught up with us,” said senior captain Nick De Bonfilhs.

De Bonfilhs finished with 19 and Tyler Coppin-Carter added 17 in the Division IV regional quarterfinal.

“This was the best overall season in our school’s history,” said De Bonfilhs. “I’m proud of our team and that I can call this team, my team.”

Coach Hamilton thinks this season is the perfect foundation for an even brighter future.

“It was amazing to see all of our hard work pay off this year. Everyone committed and really took to heart a team approach. I’m really excited for the future because we have six freshmen, three sophomores and a junior point guard.”
