When 'Desperate Housewives' came to Sherman Oaks
Local drug store yet another Sherman Oaks location for TV.
Stepping inside Maxon’s Drugs at 14070 Ventura Blvd. and its easy to see what a TV Location Scout might start to drool. In a world now filled with CVS superstores and very little personal attention, the place is a throwback to the drug stores of old.
Minus, of course, the soda fountain.
“We’ve been here a long time and people like coming here. Everyone is friendly and we’re here to help,” says Gina Compton, a makeup counter clerk.

They’ve been at this location for 20 years and enjoy a loyalty unlike most shops you’ll see. But even more impressive, you might feel at home here even if you’ve never stepped foot inside it. The reason? It’s been featured in several films, commercials and TV shows. Most recently, the ABC hit “Desperate Housewives”
“They were here a couple of times. The one character used to come in. And they brought in their own pharmacists,” said Compton. “It was exciting.”

Autographed publicity shots of the stars adorn the wall along side the Pharmacy. Another added convenience you might not be used to seeing in a shop like this: a post office.
“That’s really popular.”
But that’s not the only thing that sets it apart. Compton says customers are drawn to the products she offers. Skin creams, lotions and makeup products, she claims, you can’t find anywhere else.
“I know the people who make it and they only sell to me. Not the big stores,” said Compton.
And she should know.
“I’m also a makeup artist,” she says. “I used to work at Universal with big stars. Believe my, I know what works.”
