MAAM--Moms Across America March will be marching in the Sierra Madre 4th of July Parade. This is part of a nationwide movement to bring awareness to the issue of labeling GMOs (genetically modified foods). GMOs pose a major threat to our food supply both from a health standpoint, an environmental standpoint, and world wide social justice issues.
We firmly believe that we have a RIGHT to know what we are eating. Chemical companies have thrown millions into buying our legislators and in deceiving the public. Last November in California, a 65 million dollar misinformation campaign tricked voters into voting against their own interest and rights and led to a narrow defeat of Prop 37...a grassroots inititative that boldly took on the corporate power houses of Monsanto and friends.
Food and social justice activist Vandana Shiva said, "I beleive the message has to come from mothers." this inspired those who continue to work on the labeling effort to form the MAAM campaign. Created and led by an Orange County Prop 37 leader, Zen Honeycutt, MAAM is organizing mothers all across the US to march in small (and large) town 4th of July parades to create awareness and to tell the corporate powers that we have the strength and determination needed to take back contorl of our food supply. We believe that labeling will allow people to make informed choices and to use their food dollars wisely, and that those choices will pressure food growers and manufacturers to choose non-GMO seeds. No market is truly free unless consumers are well informed so that they can make educated choices that will influence the market to provide them with what they want.

We are looking to set up communicaton with mothers throughout the Sierra Madre area (Arcadia, Pasadena, Monrovia) and to spread the word throughout the schools to gather a large number of moms and kids to march for this great cause. Schools and mothers are encouraged to contact Kim Kelley (kimeelyun@aol.com...626-827-4132) for more information or to help organize your school's or organization's moms and kids.
