Changes to City’s Aquatics Program: What Are They?
Waterworks Aquatics is taking over operation of Sierra Madre's pool, which means a year-round swim program, a change in fees and a break for the city's budget.
Waterworks Aquatics will take over operation of the Sierra Madre Aquatic Center on June 9. Swim lessons, recreational and lap swim, camps and swim teams will still be held, though they will now occur year-round and fees for the programs are expected to change.
The new lease agreement is good news for the city’s budget: it will save the city $103,594 for fiscal year 2012-13.
Waterworks will offer its swim program to Sierra Madre residents, as well as residents in surrounding communities, including: Altadena, Arcadia, Pasadena, South Pasadena, Monrovia, San Marino, San Gabriel, Temple City, Duarte, Alhambra, El Monte, Baldwin Park, Rosemead, Azusa, and West Covina.

Pool employees and summer staff from last year will be able to reapply for their positions, and Waterworks says they will be given priority for job opportunities. If all of the positions are not filled with previous staff, Waterworks says they will hire from the community. Job openings can be found here: http://www.waterworksswim.com/employment.php.
Waterworks intends to create a Community Advisory Board of residents to “work hand-in-hand with the community to ensure they are providing services that will benefit the residents at a cost that is accessible,” according to a statement released by the city. Residents interested in joining the CAB, send an e-mail to Adam Matsumoto at amatsumoto@cityofsierramadre.com detailing their interest.
