Video: Budincich Medals at State Championships

Sierra Madre's Nick Budincich took home two medals at the Track and Field Championships in Fresno on Saturday.

Nick Budincich, a senior at Loyola High School, competed in two throwing events at the California State Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Fresno.

Budincich placed second in shot put with a throw of 53' 10 1/4", and first in the 25 lb. weight throw with a distance of 62' 5".

Budincich's talents have earned him a four-year track and field scholarship to Stanford University.

“It was a difficult decision to pick between USC and Stanford, because my Dad was an All American shot putter there and I really have high goals of beating his marks," said Budincich.

Though these two medals are certainly a huge accomplishment, Budincich's next throwing goals are already on his mind.

“The big meets for me will be in May and June, when I compete for my school to try to win a team CIF title, State title, and repeat as National Champions in the NIKE National Meet, like we did last year in Eugene," said Budincich.
