Sierra Madre Playhouse in conjunction with The 6th Act presents the charming romantic comedy Outside Mullingar by Tony, Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award–winning writer John Patrick Shanley (Doubt, Moonstruck) for 16 performances from October 2-25, 2026. The play, directed by Matthew Leavitt, explores the balance between love and land, inheritance and independence, and the courage it takes to follow one’s heart.
Outside Mullingar is a lyrical, deeply human story— warm, wistful, and full of hope that love can bloom late in life. In the mist-shrouded farmlands of rural Ireland, Anthony and Rosemary live side by side, bound by family legacies, stubborn pride, and an unspoken longing that has lasted a lifetime. Anthony has spent his days quietly tending his father’s cattle farm, uncertain of his future and haunted by what might have been. Rosemary, his strong-willed neighbor, has waited years for him to see what’s been right in front of him all along.
The distinguished cast includes Michael Kirby (Anthony Reilly), Liza Seneca (Rosemary Muldoon), Armin Shimerman (Tony Reilly), and Kitty Swink (Aoife Muldoon).
The production has garnered considerable critical acclaim. Stage Raw declares, “This first-rate production is powered by outstanding cast performances. Pacific Jazz Orchestra’s Benefit Concert on Saturday, October 10, 2026, 7:00 pm, at a historic private estate in Toluca Lake, CA, promises to be a musical night to remember. The evening under the stars celebrating Founder/Artistic Director Chris Walden’s 60th birthday is anchored by an intimate concert featuring a stellar line up of guest artists from the worlds of pop music, Broadway, jazz, and classical music.
Currently slated to appear are legendary 16-time time GRAMMY®-winning songwriter/producer David Foster; film/television/Broadway/vocal star Katharine McPhee; GRAMMY®-winning singer and Broadway luminary Joanna “JoJo” Levesque; virtuosic jazz pianist Emmet Cohen; multi-GRAMMY®-winning violinist Anne Akiko Meyers; critically acclaimed vocal sensation Veronica Swift, six-time GRAMMY®-nominated pianist and musical changemaker Shelly Berg; and R&amp;B/soul singer Adam “AeJaye” Jackson. (Additional guest artists to be announced.)
The acclaimed artists perform with Pacific Jazz Orchestra, a 40-piece hybrid big band and string orchestra, led by Walden, a seven-time GRAMMY®-nominee who is creating original arrangements for the genre-spanning program that embraces jazz, swing, Latin, R&amp;B, pop, and musical theater.
The second half of the program features Walden leading Pacific Jazz Orchestra’s 17-piece Big Band Ensemble.
“I can’t think of a better way to turn 60 than surrounded by the music, musicians, friends and family I love,” says Walden. “This will be a very special event with remarkable artists in an iconic location.”
In addition to the al fresco performance, the celebration includes a sweet and savory buffet reception and hosted bar. It also features a live auction of enticing musical, entertainment, and travel packages capped by dancing under the stars to the Pacific Jazz Big Band Ensemble comprised of LA’s leading studio musicians. Tickets ($325) include complimentary valet parking as well. Cocktail attire is suggested.

Camerata Pacifica, the chamber music collective celebrated for its exceptional artistry and compelling programming, unveils its 2026-27 season. Founder and Artistic Director Adrian Spence announced the details of the 37 th season, featuring eight programs embracing new and legacy works spanning three centuries, including two world premieres. Camerata Pacifica launches its 2026-27 season on October 11-15, 2026. Pianist Irina Zahharenkova performs Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Chopin, Op. 22. Violinist Grace Park and cellist Santiago Cañón- Valencia then join Zahharenkova, to play Schubert's B-Flat Major Trio. The program on November 8-13, 2026, includes the world premiere of a new work for mixed octet by composer Niloufar Nourbakhsh. In addition, Principal Oboe Nicholas Daniel is featured on Michael Daugherty’s Firecracker. Other contemporary works include Missy Mazzoli’s Vespers for Violin, as well as I prefer living in color by the late Sarah Gibson.&nbsp;Mozart’s Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major, K. 452, provides musical context to the program. Featured artsist include Alena Hove, violin; Rob Brophy, viola; Ani Aznavoorian, cello; Catherine Gregory, flute; Jose Franch-Ballester, clarinet; Eleni Katz, bassoon; Ben Goldscheider, horn; Irina Zahharenkova, piano; and Ji Hye Jung, percussion, along with Nicolas Daniel, oboe. On December 7 and 8, 2026, Camerata Pacifica begins the second phase of “Beethoven 32,” its three-year Beethoven cycle featuring Principal Piano Gilles Vonsattel performing all 32 of Beethoven’s piano sonatas in a hybrid blend of solo recitals and chamber programs. For this program, Vonsattel interprets three contrasting sonatas, starting with Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in G Major, Op. 31, No. 1, followed by Piano Sonata in D Minor, Op. 31, No. 2, “The Tempest.” Vonsattel wraps the recital with Piano Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 31, No. 3, “The Hunt.” Camerata Pacifica’s season continues on January 10-15, 2027, with the world premiere of a new work for mixed sextet by Howard Frazin. The chamber collective also performs Bach’s Flute Sonata in E Major, featuring flutist Sébastian Jacot; de Falla’s Concerto for Harpsichord, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Violin and Cello; and Malcom Arnold’s Divertimento, Op. 37, a sequence of six short pieces for flute, oboe, and clarinet. Strauss’s Kaiser- Walzer, Op. 437, a waltz arranged by Arnold Schoenberg, caps the program. Appearing with Sébastian Jacot are Grace Park, violin; Jason Uyeyama, violin; Che-Yen Chen, viola; Jose Franch-Ballester, clarinet; Nicholas Daniel, oboe; Ani Aznavoorian, cello; and Irina Zahharenkova, piano. On February 19-23, 2027, Camerata Pacifica reprises John Harbison’s String Trio, which Camerata Pacifica commissioned and premiered in 2013. It features Jolente De Maeyer, violin, Che-Yen Chen, viola, and Ani Aznavoorian, cello. Harbison’s tour de force is bookended by another segment of the “Beethoven 32” project with Gilles Vonsattel performing Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in G Major, Op. 49, No. 2, and Piano Sonata in B-flat Major, Op. 22
The second of two “Beethoven 32” solo piano recitals this season featuring Gilles Vonsattel takes place March 25 and 26, 2027. He illuminates four Beethoven piano sonatas, beginning with the deeply expressive Piano Sonata in C Minor, Op. 10, No. 1, and the Piano Sonata in G Major, Op. 14, No. 2. Vonsattel also performs Piano Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 81a, “Les Adieux,” and Piano Sonata in A-flat Major, Op. 110. On April 13-18, 2027, Camerata Pacifica celebrates the harp with two of the world’s leading harpists – Emmanuel Ceysson, who has served as Principal Harpist for the Paris Opera, the Metropolitan Opera and now the LA Phil, and Cristina Montes Mateo, Principal Harpist for the Valencia Opera House in Spain and Royal Harpist to the King and Queen of Spain. The rare all-harp program features them on Smetana’s Die Moldau arranged by Trneček; Takemitsu’s Bryce for flute, two harps, marimba, and percussion; The Eye of Night by David Bruce; and Walter-Kühne’s Fantasia on Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. Further spotlighting the instrument’s broad sonic range are Rameau’ Le Tic-Toc-Choc ou Les Maillotins; Balakirev’s harp arrangement of Glinka’s The Lark; and Fauré’s Fantaisie, Op. 79. Also on the program is Kembang Suling, one of Gareth Farr. The artists appearing with the two harpists are percussionists Ji Hye Jung and W. Lee Vinson, violist Che-Yen Chen, and flutist Sébastian Jacot. Camerata Pacifica wraps season on May 9-14, 2027, with another “Beethoven 32” component, featuring pianist Gilles Vonsattel playing Piano Sonata in C Major, Op. 2, No. 3. It concludes with Samuel Barber's String Quartet in B Minor, Op. 11, and Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in G Minor, Op. 57, featuring violinists Jolente De Maeyer and Jason Uyeyama; violist Che-Yen Chen; and cellist Ani Aznavoorian, in addition to Gilles Vonsattel. Camerata Pacifica features a blend of timeless and contemporary works, including the world premiere of The Innocence of Life for mixed octet by award-winning Iranian American composer Niloufar Nourbakhsh, hailed for her singular musical voice, on November 8-13, 2026, at four Southland venues. The 20-minute work for clarinet, oboe, horn, violin, viola, cello, percussion and piano is the first of two highly anticipated Camerata Pacifica-commissioned world premieres presented during the 2026-27 season.
The performances are Sunday, November 8, 3:00 pm, at Thousand Oaks’ Janet and Ray Scherr Forum; Tuesday, November 10, 7:30 pm, at The Huntington’s Rothenberg Hall in San Marino; Thursday, November 12, 8:00 pm, Zipper Hall, at Zipper Hall in Downtown Los Angeles; and Friday, November 13, 2026, 7:00 pm, at Santa Barbara’s Music Academy of the West.
“Niloufar Nourbakhsh possesses a unique and powerful musical voice,” says Camerata Pacifica Founder/Artistic Director Adrian Spence. “Even without the overlay of current world affairs, the music of a young Iranian woman presented publicly in the world’s concert halls is itself a statement.”
Nourbakhsh’s music, described as “stark” (WNPR) and “darkly lyrical” (The New York Times), has been performed at numerous festivals and venues, including Carnegie Hall, Mostly Mozart at Lincoln Center, and the Direct Current Festival at the Kennedy Center. A founding member and co-director of the Iranian Female Composers Association, Nourbakhsh is a strong advocate of music education and equal opportunities. She received an OPERA America 2026 Commissioning Grant from its Opera Grants for Women Composers program as well as OPERA America’s 2019 Discovery Grant. She also won the 2022 Beth Morrison Projects Next Generation competition, among other awards.
The program also features Principal Oboe Nicholas Daniel performing multi-Grammy-winning composer Michael Daugherty’s Firecracker, a virtuosic chamber concerto that celebrates the rhythmic and explosive potential of the oboe.
Other contemporary works include Grammy-nominated composer Missy Mazzoli’s Vespers for Violin, for amplified violin and electronics, as well as I prefer living in color by the late Sarah Gibson, inspired by a colorful David Hockney painting.
Mozart’s Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major, K. 452, scored for piano, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn, provides musical context for these five contemporary works.
The program features Alena Hove, violin; Robert Brophy, viola; Ani Aznavoorian, cello; Catherine Gregory, flute; Jose Franch-Ballester, clarinet; Eleni Katz, bassoon; Ben Goldscheider, horn; Irina Zahharenkova, piano; and Ji Hye Jung, percussion, along with Nicolas Daniel, oboe.
Camerata Pacifica, a Southern California-based chamber music collective celebrated for its exceptional artistry and compelling programming of legacy classics and daring new work, was named 2026 Ensemble of the Year by the national service organization Chamber Music America. Praised as “innovative and intrepid” (The Daily Telegraph), “visceral and powerful” (The Economist), the ensemble has a considerable commissioning portfolio that includes more than 20 works by such established and rising composers as John Harbison, Jake Heggie, Huang Ruo, Lera Auerbach, Bright Sheng, Ian Wilson, David Bruce, Libby Larsen, and John Luther Adams. Camerata Pacifica was founded in 1990 by Adrian Spence, who was named to Musical America’s prestigious list of Top 30 Professionals in Classical Music in January 2026.

Camerata Pacifica Presents World Premiere by Niloufar Nourbakhsh

Jazz and blues vocalist Mara Kaye joins the Marlonius Jazz Orchestra, led by virtuosic bassist/composer Marlonius (who goes by a single name), to celebrate the iconic musical legacy of Billie Holiday, on Sunday, November 8, 2026, 8:00 PM, at Sierra Madre Playhouse. Holiday, known as Lady Day, is considered one of history’s greatest jazz singers, inspiring generations of artists with her raw emotional delivery and revolutionary phrasing mimicking a horn player by bending notes and shifting rhythms.
Kaye, herself, has been proclaimed “one of New York’s great gifts to the world… (with) a substantial stage presence…and a voice that matches her larger-than-life presence (Jazz Lives). She performs jazz and blues standards with a deep passion and respect for the music’s original storytellers. The Brooklyn native, who has shared her artistry around the globe from Moscow to Lincoln Center, brings to the stage the emotional power and swing of Billie Holiday and the sorrows and joys of Bessie Smith. Blues legend Jimmy Vivino compared Kaye’s voice to “Louis Armstrong’s trumpet at a rent party.”
Marlonius is noted for filtering his classical chops and a deep jazz sensibility through a keen modern creative vision. A product of the Colburn Conservatory of Music, he studied classical bass and orchestral performance before evolving into a leading voice in the LA’s jazz community. Marlonius is the founder and artistic director of the Marlonius Jazz Orchestra, which performs his original compositions and compelling reinterpretations of jazz classics. He has toured and collaborated with a remarkable range of artists, including Stewart Copeland, Mike Garson, and Quatuor Ebène, and continues to bridge genres, instrumentation and musical cultures with his work.

The Sierra Madre Playhouse revisits its beginnings as a silent film movie house with a one-night-only screening of Faust, a hauntingly beautiful 1926 silent fantasy horror masterpiece directed by F.W. Murnau, on – fittingly – Friday, November 13, 2026, 8:00 PM. One of the towering achievements of silent cinema, the film, packed with gothic imagery and mythic themes, comes alive once again through live piano accompaniment by Larry Garf, whose dramatical score heightens every flicker of beauty and despair.
Writer and humorist Rich Procter introduces the film and leads a post-show discussion exploring Murnau’s artistry, the legacy of Expressionist cinema, and why Faust continues to fascinate a century later.
Faust is F.W. Murnau’s visionary adaptation of Goethe’s classic tale of ambition, temptation, and redemption. Combining the grandeur of German Expressionism with a deeply human story, the film follows the scholar Faust as he makes a fateful bargain with Mephisto, trading his soul for youth, power, and passion.
Murnau’s Faust remains a visual marvel filled with sweeping camera movements, intricate set design, and striking use of light and shadow. Its imagery influenced generations of filmmakers, from Hitchcock to Bergman, and stands among the most haunting depictions of good and evil ever captured on film.
