Chamber Event Seeks to Encourage Local Spending

Opening week of "Friday Night Live" series features the music of Ron Ellington Shy and Son and other activities.

Starting tonight, Friday, July 29, downtown Sierra Madre will play host to the weekly “Friday Night Live” music series.

Sponsored by the , each Friday night from now until Aug. 26 will feature a musical performance and other activities intended to spur local commerce.

To that end, the chamber is promising “shoppers’ incentives,” such as a raffle for anyone who spends $35 in a retail store or $50 in a restaurant during the event’s hours of 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Shoppers and diners who do so will be eligible for a drawing on Aug. 26, the winner of which will get “a shopping/dining spree at Sierra Madre businesses that has an estimated value of $500,” according to event organizers.

The opening night of the four-week series will feature the music of Ron Ellington Shy and Son, sponsored by .

Here's how the Chamber press release describes the music of Ron Ellington Shy and Son:

"An outstanding singer, keyboardist, sax player, trombonist, drummer and dancer, Ron puts it all together in a dynamic style of non-stop music that fits all generations with variety, class, and energy."

will take place in Kersting Court in downtown Sierra Madre from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., each Friday from July 29 to Aug. 26.
