City Council Votes to Lower Commercial Solar Fees

Sierra Madre's City Council has adopted a new fee schedule for commercial solar installations that drastically reduces fees associated with photovoltaic inspections.

Council Members gave official approval Tuesday to a new fee structure for installation of Solar Panel projects on commercial building in Sierra Madre.

Resolution 11-78, which was passed 4-0 with Council Member Mosca in absentia calls for the adoption of a fee calculator method proposed by the Sierra Club and bases inspection cost not on the total value of the project, but on the number of hours necessary for city workers to conduct the inspection.

The move comes in direct response to an article here on Sierra Madre Patch. That article cited a recent Sierra Club study that showed Sierra Madre's commercial solar installation permit fees to be among the highest in Los Angeles County.

Last month, the Council essentially voted to move forward with the fee reduction.

Though it was not until the passage of this ordinance that the new fee schedule became law.
