Elephant Controversy Attracts TV News Coverage

Story aired on KTLA Sunday evening following impromptu press conference in Memorial Park.

A controversy that erupted over attracted attention from at least two* local television news outlets on Sunday, July 3.

At 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, City Manager Elaine Aguilar, Mayor John Buchanan and Parade Committee Chair Matthew Bosse all responded to the heightening coverage with an unannounced, impromptu press conference in .

Later that evening, KTLA published a story on their website, as well as a video segment during their nightly news broadcast.

Leaked information about the surprise elephant appearence sparked a firestorm of controversy among local residents, as the well as animal rights group PETA, which posted a letter on their website petitioning city officials to cancel the elephant.
