In this 10 week class you will gain the knowledge that most artists use intuitively and don’t verbalize. By combining this knowledge with some skill exercises you will learn to quickly layout an accurate likeness of anyone. Also, you will learn how to consistently judge values accurately and, together with edges, learn how to create the illusion of three dimensional space. Students will work primarily in charcoal and from observation of live models. Open to all levels. Classes are Tuesdays 7-10pm beginning January 8th 2013. Space is limited. By the end of this class, you will have a sound foundation in portrait draftsmanship that you can use to develop your own approach and style.
About Artist & Teacher Terry Kelly

Terry Kelly combines his paradoxical love for both realism and abstraction in his portrait drawings. He grew up on a farm near the ocean on the east coast of Australia and worked for a number of years as an architectural draughtsman. Random events brought him to the U.S. where he rediscovered an interest in figurative art. After getting a foundation in drawing from some of the local Los Angeles teachers, he learned the psychological aspects of abstract art as an autodidact. Terry appears in the latest issue of American Artist Drawing Magazine. The award winning artist’s work will appear again in American Artist Magazine's for his placement in the "Shades of Gray" Competition.
