Free Compost Available For Sierra Madre Residents

SIERRA MADRE, CA — The city and Athens Services will host a free compost giveaway for residents later this month, officials announced Tuesday.

Compost to enrich soil will be available from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 14, in the west end parking lot at Sierra Vista Park, 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd.

The drive-up event is self-service, according to organizers. Residents should bring shovels and sturdy containers to collect compost, which will be available while supplies last.

Proof of residency, such as identification or a bill, is required.

Compost from Athens Services Inc. is made from green waste, wood waste and food scraps and is certified through the U.S. Composting Council’s Seal of Testing Assurance program. The compost may contain small particles of glass, officials said.
