Williams Fire, Tuesday Morning

According to the US Forest Service, the San Gabriel Canyon fire is now 15% contained; full containment projected for September 13th.

The 3,600 acre Williams Fire, though still "actively burning," is 15% contained, according to the US Forest Service Incident Information System (InciWeb).

Here are some additional stats:

  • The fire has been fueled by chaparral, brush and mixed conifers, most of which are estimated to have been 15 to 20 years old. 
  • Firefighting resources have included 4 Air Tankers, 10 Helicopters, 40 engines, 8 dozers, 24 hand crews, and 5 water tenders. Total personnel: 771.
  • In spite of difficult terrain ("Very Steep. 30% to 80% slope"), firefighters made "good progress" yesterday.
