New Part-Time Sergeant Brings Total Sierra Madre Police Force to 36
Sgt. Paul Monforte, now part-time with the SMPD, retired recently from the Pomona Police Department.
The addition of Sgt. Paul Monforte to the as a part-time sergeant has brought the total number of employees to 36 including sworn officers, full-time, part-time and otherwise, according to the department's 2010 annual report.
Sgt. Monforte was given his official introduction to the local citizenry at the Feb. 8 meeting of the City Council. At the meeting, Chief Diaz lauded Monforte's many years of service to the Pomona Police Department and expressed her pleasure at bringing his many years of experience to the city's police force. Monforte retied from the Pomona PD on Oct. 13, 2010. He was first sworn on March 21, 1986.
Quoting and expressing her agreement with the Chief of the Pomona Police Department, Diaz called Monforte "a superior officer [who is] talented, motivated, ethical, honest and [scrupulous] in his devotion to duty."
Monforte was brief in his comments, telling the council it was an honor to work for the city and that "so far everyone has been very welcoming."
Sierra Madre's police force now has 23 full-time members, including 10 sworn officers, four desk officers, four sergeants, two corporals, one code enforcement officer as well as Captain Larry Giannone and Chief Marilyn Diaz. On the part-time side, the department has four officers, two lieutenants, four desk officers, one administrative assistant and two cadets. The department also has five reserve officers and 16 volunteers.
