Playhouse Announces 2011 Season

The  has assembled an array of shows for its main stage for the coming year. Here's a quick look at the productions recently annoinced as having been selected for the main stage by the playhouse board.

"Sylvia" - Jan. 14 to Feb. 19
Written by A. R. Gurney, Directed by Gita Donovan
Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after sending their last child off to college. During a walk in the park Greg finds Sylvia, a bouncy lab poodle mix, who appears to understand his frustration with work and middle age. Kate, whose new job is full of opportunity and satisfaction, comes to feel that she is losing Greg to his adoring new best friend. This imaginative twist on Greg's midlife crisis leads to laughter and some thoughtful insights into the nature of love, marriage, jealousy, and dogs.

"Our Town" - March 4 to April 16th
Written by Thornton Wilder, Directed by Barbara Schofield
Our Town explores the lives of people living in Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, a small quintessentially American town. In 1901 Grover's Corners is the perfect picture of an American town before urbanization – automobiles are a novelty, everyone is up in each other's business, and milk is still delivered fresh every morning. It is a timeless story of life that is still being played out. Our Town was first produced in 1938 and received the Pulitzer Prize for Literature.

"Cat's Cradle" - April 29 to June 4
Written by Leslie Sands, Directed by Bill Mesnik
The Fulton kidnapping of 12 years past was never solved, and Inspector Frost returns to the tiny English village to revisit the scene of his greatest frustration for one more go at it. But his reception is one of suspicion and hostility from the people he thought of as friends. A classic English manor house mystery.

"Solid Gold Cadillac" - June 17 to July 30
Written by Howard Teichmann & George S. Kaufman, Directed by Bob Hakman
This witty comedy looks at what happens when greed and corruption come face to face with innocent determination to uncover the truth. First produced in 1953, S.G.C. is still as pertinent today, as a cautionary tale of a corporate Goliath vs. a small David in the form of a timid woman committed to protecting her ten shares of stock. Judy Holliday starred in the very popular movie of the same name.

To Be Announced  - Aug. 19 to Sep. 24

"To Kill A Mockingbird" - Oct. 7 to Nov. 12
Written by Harper Lee, Directed by Michael Cooper
To Kill A Mockingbird is a faithful reproduction of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize winning novel. She describes the play as "a love story, pure and simple": love for the South, a father's love for his children and their love for him. The story is about dignity, tolerance and the difficulties of growing up in a rural community in Alabama during the depression year of 1935. Told through the eyes of Scout, the tomboyish daughter of Atticus Finch, it is a moving story that has never failed to entrance viewers.

Tickets for most shows are $20 general admission, $17 for seniors (65+) and students (13-17) , and $12 for children 12 and under. Tickets for The Christmas Show are slightly higher.
