Rain Storm Coming; Green Flag Alert

Rain is expected to roll into Sierra Madre Thursday night and continue through Friday, making for a wet morning commute. There's also a possibility of thunderstorms.

Rain is expected to soak Sierra Madre for the second time this week, and the next storm is forecast to be heavier than the first.

The city has issued a Green Flag Alert in anticipation of a Thursday evening and Friday rainstorm. There is a 100 percent chance of rain on Friday and thunderstorms are possible, according to the National Weather Service.

A Green Flag Alert is issued when there is an 80% chance or more of precipitation. Affected residents should get ready for potential evacuation and keep close watch on weather forecasts. This includes residents of the Upper and Lower Canyon as well as any resident whose property abuts the hillsides burned by the Santa Anita Fire.

Precipitation is expected to begin shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday, with light wind blowing through at 10 to 15 mph.

Rain will increase in intensity on Friday and there is a possibility of thunderstorms after 11 a.m. There's a small chance that hail could accompany the lightning and thunder. Temps are expected to reach 56 degrees.

The NWS suggests that commuters allow extra time to get to work Friday morning because the rain could make for slick roads and less-than-desirable driving conditions.

The storm is expected to taper off Friday evening and give way to a sunny but cool Saturday.

Temperatures:

Thursday daytime high: 62 evening low: 50

Friday daytime high: 56 evening low: 42
