A private Sierra Madre garden has been chosen to be part of the 9th Annual <a href="http://www.nativeplantgardentour.org/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Theodore Payne Native Plant Garden Tour</a>. The self-guided tour, which runs the weekend of April 14 and 15, features 37 homes in Los Angeles County, including 13 in the San Gabriel Valley. The event is expected to draw about 1,000 revelers and is "not your grandparents' garden tour," according to Keith Malone, who is involved in the event. Homeowners, landscape designers and docents will be on-hand to interact with visitors and discuss planting and gardening techniques. Attendees are encouraged to share their knowledge, as well. The Sierra Madre garden is 4,000 square feet and was begun in early 2011. The garden "includes terraces of local stone, rock water features, permeable paving, drains and swales, and formal and woodland plantings," according to the tour description.
