When police did arrive, they found a blue pickup truck attempting to back out of the driveway with a single lawnmower in the truck bed.

After the suspects refused to stop initially, police said a short pursuit ensued along East Montecito Avenue down to the intersection with Mountain Trail Avenue, where the suspects were taken into custody “without incident,” according to the SMPD.

In his statement, Giannone praised the handling of the situation by the resident.

“The victim in this case did a great job by calling 911 immediately and providing the dispatcher with accurate information throughout this horrifying event,” Giannone said in the release.  “His actions, along with the officers’ quick and effective response, resulted in the arrest of two burglary suspects and the recovery of stolen property.”
