'Travel By Sea' to Headline Final Downtown Concert

Chamber's "Friday Night Live" series ends tonight with performance by rock band and drawing for Sierra Madre shopping spree.

A weekly concert series that began on Friday, July 29, in downtown Sierra Madre will come to an end tonight as rockers "Travel by Sea" take the stage in Kersting Court.

The Southern California based, self-described Folk/Indie sextet features Kyle Kersten on guitar and vocals, Dan Moore on bass guitar and vocals, John Phinney on pedal steel and banjo, Mike Cusick on the drums, Andrew Morrison on guitars and Brian Kraft as "the mastermind."

Those interested in a preview of the band's music can check out one of the YouTube videos attached to this article. One video is of a live concert the band played in San Juan Capistrano, another is an official promo released by the band ahead of their latest album, "Two States and the Blindness that Follows," and the third is the group covering some classic Neil Young.

Sponsored by the , the weekly “Friday Night Live” series features musical performances, contests and other activites in an effort to draw out shoppers and diners to patronize Sierra Madre's downton businesses.

To that end, the chamber is promising “shoppers’ incentives,” such as a raffle for anyone who spends $35 in a retail store or $50 in a restaurant during the event’s hours of 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Shoppers and diners who do so will be eligible for a drawing on Aug. 26, two winners of which will get a shopping/dining spree at Sierra Madre businesses that has an estimated value of nearly $600.

“Considering that there are two prizes, and considering the relatively low number of entries that will end up being in the drawing, everybody in the San Gabriel Valley should be heading up here to get in this contest,” Coburn said in a release promoting the event. “The odds of winning are going to be pretty good compared to other contests.”

The grand prizes include $25 gift certificates from , , , , , , , , , , , , , , and . 

In addition, the has donated Afternoon Tea for one ($22 value), has donated a free massage ($50 value), and the has donated theater tickets for two ($40 value) for each of the prizes.

The final event of the year will take place in Kersting Court in downtown Sierra Madre from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., Aug. 26.
