Unemployment Rate Lower in Sierra Madre
The latest unemployment data reveals that 3.3% of people are without a job in Sierra Madre, which is much lower than the county and state unemployment rate.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County, including Sierra Madre, dropped to 11.6 percent in April, down from 11.8 percent in March, the state Employment Development Department announced Friday. That's 569,000 people without jobs in the county.
The number is lower than the April 2011 unemployment rate, which was 12.2 percent, according to EDD.
However, in Sierra Madre, the unemployment rate was just 3.3% as of April 30th, according to figures. That's 200 residents without a job.

L.A. County has a higher unemployment rate than the state average, which is 10.9 percent. Statewide, about 2 million people are jobless.
The nation's unemployment rate for April was estimated at 8.1 percent, which is down .9 percent from one year ago.

Jobs Decrease
Total nonfarm employment decreased by 7,100 jobs in Los Angeles County between March and April to reach 3.8 million. The manufacturing sector recorded the largest month-over-month decline, losing 3,200 jobs.
