Video: Residents React to Tree Removal
Locals who gathered to watch the California Pepper Tree fall in Kersting Court Tuesday said they'd like to see another tree planted in its place.
About 50 residents gathered to watch workers dismantle the largest California Pepper Tree in Kersting Court Tuesday morning, which is estimated to be over 100-years-old.
Some expressed disbelief while others adapted a "hey, it had to come down and life goes on" attitude.
The branches and leaves strewn about Kersting Court were certainly a sight to be seen... almost reminiscent of the that swept through Sierra Madre and toppled over 100 trees and left about 5,500 tons of debris to be cleaned up.

The tree was flagged for removal in January after a city arborist deemed it a public safety hazard. The cost for removal was $2,500.
