Video: Tree Cut Down in Kersting Court
Chainsaws, a mini bulldozer and stray branches and leaves littered Kersting Court Tuesday as the largest California Pepper Tree, believed to have been planted in 1887, was cut down.
On Tuesday just before 10 a.m., West Coast Arborists began the hours-long process of cutting down the largest California Pepper Tree in Kersting Court.
A lone "Save the Tree" sign was propped up just below the trunk, but to no avail. The tree was deemed a public hazard by the town arborist in January and flagged for removal due to safety concerns. Two metal poles had been propping up the tree for more than a month prior to its removal.
Four police cars, a mini bulldozer, a bucket truck and a crew of about five workers with chainsaws and ropes were on hand to complete the job. A crowd of about 50 people gathered to watch and comment on the tree as it came down.
