SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A reportedly suicidal Vallejo man who had been contacted by authorities investigating child sexual abuse material killed himself on Saturday after a chase along the Sonoma County coast, authorities said.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office was alerted Friday by the Solano County Sheriff's Office about a possibly armed and suicidal man, identified as 57-year-old Cory Nott.
It was believed that Nott had driven to Sonoma County after he was contacted as part of an initial investigation involving child sexual abuse material, authorities said Monday.
Deputies were given a description of the motorcycle Nott was riding and about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, they spotted him in the 1000 block of Highway 1 in Bodega Bay.
The deputy tried to check on Nott's well-being, but he fled on his motorcycle, riding erratically, according to the Sonoma sheriff.
The deputy pursued Nott southbound on Highway 1 for about a mile until he turned into the parking lot of the Bird Walk Coastal Access at 355 Highway 1.
Nott then left the motorcycle and ran behind a tree, where witnesses and the deputy reported that he shot himself.
The deputy called for medical assistance, but Nott was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:39 a.m., the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said.
