SONOMA VALLEY, CA — Federal aviation officials are investigating a crash Wednesday that injured three after slamming into a levee at Sonoma Valley Airport.
A small aircraft slammed into a levee during a landing attempt, injuring all three people aboard and sending firefighters, deputies and paramedics rushing to the crash scene near Arnold Drive.
The crash happened around 4:19 p.m. at the airport property in the 23980 block of Arnold Drive, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.
Sonoma Valley deputies, Schellville Fire Department crews, and Sonoma Valley Fire District personnel arrived to find a single-engine aircraft resting against a levee after the failed landing attempt.
Authorities said the pilot and two passengers suffered injuries in the crash. Emergency crews transported two of the injured occupants to a local hospital for treatment.
Officials had not publicly released the extent of the injuries Wednesday evening.
The wreckage remained under investigation as emergency responders secured the crash site and investigators began examining the aircraft and surrounding area.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the crash.
Authorities also credited the California Highway Patrol and other responding public safety agencies for assisting at the emergency scene.
