SANTA ROSA, CA — A juvenile and a convicted felon were arrested after Santa Rosa police discovered a loaded handgun, ammunition, and prohibited weapons during a traffic stop Saturday night, authorities said.

Officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department's Special Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near West Eighth and Donahue streets at about 8:21 p.m. after observing open containers of alcohol and loose marijuana inside the vehicle.

Police said a juvenile passenger was found carrying a loaded, concealed .22-caliber revolver and was arrested on suspicion of possession of a handgun and concealed firearm by a minor.

Another passenger, 28-year-old Santa Rosa resident Shyzaha Thorpe, was allegedly found with a pepper ball self-defense weapon, bear spray, and several rounds of 9mm ammunition. Because Thorpe is a convicted felon, police said he was arrested on suspicion of possessing ammunition and tear gas weapons as a prohibited person, according to the police.

The driver and another passenger were released after officers determined the driver was not under the influence of alcohol, police said.
