Abraham López Pleads Not Guilty at Arraignment

López stands accused of murdering Cindi Santana at South East High-School.

Abraham López, 18, who stands accused of fatally stabbing his ex girlfriend Cindi Santana, 17, in the cafeteria of last September, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment at Norwalk Courthouse, this morning.

The prosecutor in the case, John Pomeroy, was not surprised with the defendant’s plea.

“The defendant almost never pleads guilty at this stage,” said Pomeroy. “The charges are still basically the same as those we filed in the pretrial.”

López faces charges of murder, 3 counts of assault with a knife, resisting police officers, issuing a criminal threat and for bringing weapons to school grounds.

Pomeroy said that he would be seeking the highest murder degree conviction for Lopez.

“We will certainly be seeking a first degree murder conviction,” said Pomeroy.

Lopez will return to court on June 11th for a pretrial date June 11th.

Scott Herin, the public defender representing Lopez could not be reached for comment.
