Update: Barricade Situation in South Gate Over
Surrounding homes near the residence on Capistrano Avenue had been evacuated.

Update:
A carjacking suspect who barricaded himself in a South Gate home this morning was taken into custody hours later by a sheriff’s SWAT team and South Gate officers, according to the sheriff’s department.
Residents evacuated during the standoff will be allowed to return home starting at 4 p.m., according to South Gate police.

The confrontation in the 10600 block of Capistrano Avenue began about 10:20 a.m.
A Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau team was sent to the location “to assist South Gate Police Department personnel regarding an armed carjacking suspect barricaded inside a residence,” said Deputy Juanita Navarro- Suarez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Surrounding homes were evacuated for the safety of the residents, Navarro-Suarez said.
Some shots may have been fired early in the incident, according to reports from the scene.
As of mid-afternoon, the suspect was in custody and there were no reports of injuries.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is assisting South Gate Police with the reported barricade situation in the10600 block of Capistrano Avenue.
LASD Crisis Negotiation Team personnel are en route.
