Eva Mendes Stars in Must See Mothers Day Movie 'Girl in Progress'

Girl In Progress, staring Eva Mendes is the perfect way to celebrate Mothers Day.

Girl In Progress, a true coming of age story, staring Eva Mendes is the perfect way to celebrate Mothers Day this year. A story of struggle between a young monther, a teenage daughter and wanting to grow up way to fast is something most woman can relate with. I had a chance to sit down with the the stars and the director and ask them why they think that Mothers and Daughters in our communities should watch this film, here is what they had to say:

Why should latinas go watch this movie?

Patricia  Riggen (Director): It is very hard to get a movie made that deals with female issues, and the charecters being woman of color makes it even harder. This is a movie that speaks to them and they will find it very satisfying.

Eva Mendez (Grace): My mom takes the cake. Part of my success is because I am trying to pay my mother back for all that she has done. I am so thankful for her support and her love. Just coming to this country was a sacrific, but being born in the US I felt that it was my responcilbility to do well. Everyone else had to struggle so much. My brothers and sisters when they first came to this country with my parents they were outsiders, they were immigrents. Y a mi, Mi padre simpre me llamaron "Eve La Americanita", so growing up with that it instilled this set of beliefs in me that was really instrumental in being successfull. Tu puedes hacer lo que tu queras, dream big.

What is it like being one of the only latina directors in Hollywood?

Patricia Riggen (Director): I am a rare breed but the hardest part is making a movie about Latinas, we had a small budget and only 22 days to shoot it.We really depend on people coming out to support us, if this does well then there will be more money in Hollywood to make more movies for Latinas.

So after having a chance to see the film (and loving it) and talking to the cast,  I really feel that this is THE Latina MUST SEE film this weekend! So grab your mom, sisters, daughters and tias and head down to the local theatre to support this awesome cast.
