Car to Car Shooting Leaves One Dead

Authorities said it was a gang-related car-to-car shooting in Compton that left one man dead and another wounded.

A gang-related car-to-car shooting in Compton Friday afternoon left one man dead and another wounded, but a third man escaped injury.

The three men were in a vehicle headed north on Alameda Street approaching El Segundo Boulevard around 3:15 p.m. when the gunfire erupted, said sheriff's Lt. Mike Rosson.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the front passenger, a 19-year-old man, was taken to a hospital for treatment, Rosson said, adding that the wounded man was in stable condition. A third man in the vehicle was uninjured, he said.

The name of the deceased man was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

There were two males in the suspect vehicle, a silver mid-sized SUV which was last seen headed east on El Segundo Boulevard, Rosson said.

It was unclear why investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.
