CHP to Go on Hiring Spree

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is scrapping its old way of doing things. It will now accept online applications for the position of officer on a continuous basis.

“Previously, we had several periods in a year to take applications and we found that sometimes it would prevent people interested in being an officer from applying,” CHP Director of Communications Fran Clader told The Sentinel in Kern County. “The fear is that we were losing qualified candidates, so we wanted to make it continuous so that anyone who is interested doesn’t have to wait.”

The goal is to hire 600 cadets per year. In addition to enticing pay and health insurance, the CHP provides up to 90 percent retirement.

“A career in law enforcement can be an extremely rewarding and exciting opportunity,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. “We are looking for highly motivated individuals who mirror the diverse makeup of California and have a passion for public service to join our ranks.”
