City Of Lynwood Continues To Prepare For Coronavirus Economic Fallout

Seven City of Lynwood employees–including several managers–will take a voluntary five percent salary reduction as part of a belt tightening at the City.

In addition, the City has imposed a hiring freeze and has cut $1 million in administrative costs.

The economic uncertainty facing state and local governments due to the severe impact of the COVID-19 public health emergency is being met by different cities in different ways.

In Lynwood, City leaders have decided it’s better to be safe than sorry.

“While some cities are assuming there will be help from the federal and state governments, we aren’t,” said City Manager Jose Ometeotl who was one of the seven employees to voluntarily cut their salaries. “We hope that there will be some help from Congress, but we certainly aren’t planning on it.”

The latest COVID-19 health statistics in Los Angeles County—and the rest of the country for that matter—show diagnosed COVID-19 cases continuing to increase dramatically.

In Los Angeles County, there have been nearly 125,000 cases diagnosed as of Thursday, July 9, with nearly 1,800 cases reported in the last day.

In Lynwood, we have had 1,601 diagnosed cases and 62 people have died.
