City of Pico Rivera Celebrates Ribbon Cutting for Alebrije Dog Park—Its First Dog Park
The project was made available with a $1 million state grant
The City of Pico Rivera today celebrated the ribbon cutting for Alebrije Dog Park, its first dedicated dog park, giving residents and their four‑legged companions a new place to gather, play, and build community. The celebration took place at the southwest corner of Rosemead Boulevard and Gallatin Road and included City leadership, partners, and community members.
Designed with community input, the park features amenities such as walking/jogging paths, hydration stations, challenge/obstacle elements, seating areas with interpretive exhibits, and natural play spaces, along with a culturally inspired alebrije theme that highlights local wildlife and celebrates Pico Rivera’s heritage. The City also intends to integrate local artwork and explore programs with agencies such as the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control to support adoptions, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services.
“This celebration represents more than the opening of Alebrije Dog Park — it reflects the power of partnership and investment in our community,” said Pico Rivera Mayor Gustavo Camacho. “Thanks to the leadership of Assemblymember Lisa Calderon in securing $1 million in state funding, along with additional City support, we brought Pico Rivera’s first dog park to life. We fully expect our residents will flock to the new park with their four-legged family members.”

We also deeply appreciate the ongoing work of our City team and community partners who helped conceptualize a park that celebrates culture, wellness, and the connection between people and their pets.”
The Alebrije Dog Park project was funded by a $1,000,000 grant from the State of California Natural Resources Agency, complemented by $1,500,000 in City funding from ARPA resources transferred to the CIP Fund. The City originally initiated a direct funding request to the office of Assemblymember Lisa Calderon, underscoring the collaborative approach that helped secure the investment.
