Council Decision on Controversial Recycling Center Postponed

The council will discuss the issue on September.

The voted to postpone their decision on denying  a conditional operations permit to a recycling collection facility, located at the parking lot of a shopping center on 3223 Firestone Boulevard, until September 11, 2012.  

“We have had a request from the applicant to have this item continued” said Mayor Bill De Witt.

Jerry Koulouvaris, the main representative of Minas Chirishyan, the owner of the recycling facility, was not able to attend the City Council meeting. Therefore, a request was made to postpone this decision until the representative was available.

, such as if this recycling center is allowed to operate.

Nevertheless, the recycling center, which continues to face a lot of opposition,  

For now the portable beishe recycling structure, which specializes in plastics, will remain closed until the council gives a final decision.

“It will not be operational until this issue is resolved,” said Alex Sarkisyan to the council, an operational manager of several recycling sites owned Chirishyan.

However, Sarkisyan told Patch that this will no longer be the case.

“We are going to handle this through the city,” said Sakisyan.
