Dorothy Avenue Block in Shock over Killing

One victim was found dead on the scene and another was reported as critically injured.

Last night, at approximately 7:45 p.m., a shooting was reported on 10500 block of Dorothy Avenue. The police upon arrival found a man shot dead and another seriously injured from what was believed to be a shotgun. Both victims have not been identified, and the injured man was taken to nearby by hospital. The latter is reported to be in critical condition.

Residents in Dorothy Avenue are still in shock over the double shooting.

“Nothing like this has ever happened,” said a female resident, who has lived on Dorothy Avenue for 18 years. The resident asked that her name not be published out of fear of violent repercussions. “There have been car burglaries and thefts, thing like that.”

The longtime resident said that she was doing some laundry when she suddenly heard loud noises. At the time she thought it was simply fireworks.

“Then we heard some screams and the police coming,” said the resident.

Residents could not confirm or deny as to where the shooting took place. However, several pointed towards a house where they saw detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) investigating.

A young man, who was present at that house this morning and would not provide his name out of fear of repercussions, said that he did not have any information on what happened. Further adding that he worried about his friend who he said lived in the house.

“I hope my friend is ok,” said the man, who would also not provide the name of his friend. “I have not heard of him in a day and a half.”

According to ABC Local Channel 7, the LASD is on the lookout for a suspect and has not apprehended anyone at this time.

Detectives have yet to release more information. However, more will become available as the case unfolds.

"We have some information but we’re not ready to release it yet,” said Lieutenant Dave Dolson, of the LASD Homicide Bureau,

When the investigators arrived on scene the whole block was cordoned off. Forcing some people to walk to the homes of relatives.

“We arrived late at night and the road was blocked by police,” said Maria Elena Ruedaflores, 39, who flew in last night from Mexico with her family. “We have come to find out that it was because of a homicide.”

Ruedaflores, who admits to being use to hearing about stories of violent crime in Mexico, was in shock that such a thing would happen in the United States.

“My relatives are afraid to go to Mexico because of what is happening there,” said Ruedaflores, who is on vacation visiting her relatives. “But it looks like they can also have the same situations here.”
