#iRelay for Life

SOUTH GATE -- Relay for Life of South Gate pulled together last year to form 27 teams and raised $50,000 to fight cancer.

In 2014, with renewed focus, the Relay kick-off event was held on Saturday, February 8 in the South Gate Senior Center located at 4855 Tweedy Blvd., in the city of South Gate.  Kicking off the season with 14 teams that stretch throughout the southeast, Relay for Life of South Gate is building excitement for the sequence that will lead to the main event July 12th at South Gate High School.  Residents from South Gate, Compton, Bellflower, Lynwood, Bell, Cudahy, Commerce, Whittier, Downey and Los Angeles filled the parking lot to listen to the stories of the many lives lost too soon to cancer.

"I relay for my mother who lost her battle to cancer" said Rosanna Vazquez, Event co-Chair.  "We would like to encourage local residents to support us in strengthening our community by joining us in the fight against cancer".

Relay for Life of South Gate has been bringing cancer survivors and anyone touched by the disease together since 2009.

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer.  We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight.
