Man Killed, Another Wounded in South Gate Shooting

SOUTH GATE, CA - One man was wounded and another killed in a shooting this afternoon in South Gate.

The shooting was reported about 5:50 p.m. in the 4900 block of Mason Street, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Information Bureau.

A man described as "the victim" was taken to a hospital, where he was being treated tonight, and the other man, described as "the suspect," was pronounced dead at the scene, Navarro-Suarez said.

A coroner's lieutenant said the deceased victim was reported to be in his 20s.

Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives were dispatched to assist South Gate police in the investigation.

No officers or deputies were involved in the shooting, according to the sheriff's department.
