Motorcycle Deputy Injured in Crash on 710 Freeway

The deputy was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, authorities said.

SOUTH GATE, CA - A sheriff's motorcycle deputy was injured Monday in a crash on the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in South Gate, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 5:10 a.m. near Imperial Highway, said Ramon Montenegro of the sheriff's Transit Policing Division.

"Preliminary reports are that a traffic collision occurred in front of the deputy, and one of the vehicles spun out of control while also traveling south on the 710 Freeway," Montenegro said.

"The vehicle then crashed into the center divider directly in front of the Transit Bureau South motorcycle enforcement deputy, who was on his way to begin his duties of patrolling the Metro Expo Line."

The deputy was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, Montenegro said. It was unclear if the other motorists were injured.
