Nearly 50 People Arrested at Lynwood Sobriety Checkpoint

A total of 46 people were arrested at a recent DUI/driver's license checkpoint held in town, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

A recent checkpoint held in the city of Lynwood netted a total of 46 arrests-- though only four of them for DUI, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

According to statistics released Monday, the checkpoint-- which was held Friday on Long Beach Blvd. at the 105 Freeway-- was one of many that have been or will be conducted throughout the year in Lynwood.

"The goal of the DUI/DL Checkpoint was removing impaired drivers and to bring awareness to the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol," the sheriff's department said. 

There were a total of 2,501 vehicles which passed through the checkpoint Friday, 1,207 of which were screened.

Of those, the following arrests were made: 

  • 3 DUI – Drug (Marijuana) Suspects Arrested 
  • 1 DUI – Alcohol Suspect Arrested 
  • 2 Suspects were Arrested for Knowingly Allowing an Unlicensed Driver to Drive, 14602(a) CVC 
  • 3 Illegal Possession of Narcotics Suspects Arrested 
  • 1 Suspect was Arrested on Felony Charges for Possessing Concentrated Cannabis 
  • 1 Suspect was Arrested for Driving a Vehicle not Equipped with an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) as required by law 
  • 1 Suspect was Arrested for Refusing to Comply with our Checkpoint instructions as required by law, 2812.2 CVC/2800(a) CVC. This suspect also had a $50,000 warrant for violating a Domestic Violence Protection Order 
  • 6 Suspended / Revoked Drivers were Arrested and Sent to Court 
  • 28 Unlicensed Drivers were Arrested and Sent to Court 
As for the vehicles, six of them were impounded for 30 days, 18 were stored for one day and a dozen were released to the registered owners "per checkpoint release procedures," LASD reported.
