One Dead, Another in Custody Following 2 Separate Deputy-Involved Shootings
The shootings happened in Compton Thursday morning.

COMPTON, CA — Two deputy-involved shootings in Compton on Thursday morning left a man dead and another person in custody, authorities said.
The first shooting, in which no one was injured, took place during a stolen-car pursuit about 2:30 a.m. near West 133rd Street and North Slater Avenue, the sheriff's department reported.
During the car chase, the motorist fired shots at deputies, who returned fire, but no one was injured, Lt. John Corina said. The suspect got out of the car and ran into the neighborhood, but was later taken into custody.

A sheriff's SWAT team assisting in the search for the stolen-car suspect shot and killed a man in the 800 block of West Stockwell Street, a few blocks from the non-injury shooting. The man, in his 20s, died at the scene of the shooting, which was reported about 5:30 a.m., according to the coroner's office. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.
Investigators were trying to determine if the two cases were related, Corina said.
